Why do I need a solicitor?

Put simply, you need a solicitor as you are compromising your employment law rights. The law gives you protection to ensure the agreement only takes effect once a qualified person has appraised you of your full rights and explained the somewhat legalistic language of the agreement. This is also to stop employers taking advantage of your situation and seeking to enforce a settlement that may not be in your interests.

The solicitor advising will also need to certify that you have been advised of your rights and that professional indemnity insurance is in force.
